“Located on a plain by the river Ebro; its climate is cold and snowy. It has 34 houses, parish church of San Pedro and a fountain of very good water. The terrain is of good quality; for it runs the Ebro. There are oak trees, beech, hazelnuts and other bushes. He breeds cattle, with a beef specialty, which is without dispute of the best of the country; hunting quails, and fishing for trout, eels and other fish.

In the mid-19th century, Requejo had 140 inhabitants and 34 houses. The Dictionary of Madoz (1849) describes a livestock village next to the Ebro, with oaks, beech forests and hazelnuts, famous for the quality of its cattle – “without dispute of the best of the country” – and for the fishing of trouts and eels in the waters of the river. Today, with 380 registered inhabitants, Requejo maintains that rural and quiet character that has defined it for centuries, just a few steps from Reinosa and with direct access to the most impressive landscapes of the Cantabrian mountain range.
